Republic FC Reaches 10,000 Season Ticket Commitments for Major League Soccer

Major milestone speaks to unprecedented Sacramento market support for MLS expansion bid.

Sacramento, Calif., October 25, 2017 – In the latest demonstration of Sacramento’s unprecedented market support for Major League Soccer (MLS), Sacramento Republic FC (Republic FC) today announced that it has reached 10,000 commitments from Republic FC fans to buy season tickets at the MLS level should the club be granted an expansion award. The MLS Board of Governors is expected to meet in December to vote on the league’s next two expansion cities.

In reaching the 10,000 season ticket milestone, Republic FC fans are demonstrating once again that Sacramento is a tremendous soccer market and poised to compete at the highest levels of MLS.”

Republic FC has led the United Soccer League (USL) with record-breaking levels of fan and market support since its inaugural campaign in 2014. After establishing new USL attendance marks during its first two seasons, the club continues pacing the league in several major sales categories, including season tickets, overall attendance and sellouts.

If successful in transitioning from USL to MLS, Republic FC would not only follow in the footsteps of other successful expansion clubs like Portland and Orlando, it would enter with more existing season ticket holders than any club in the history of MLS expansion.

Reaching the 10,000 season ticket milestone is the latest in a series of developments showcasing the strength and depth of Sacramento’s efforts to bring home a bid for MLS. In July, Republic FC announced plans to initiate the first phase of construction on a new MLS stadium prior to a formal expansion award. Last week, Republic FC announced a first-of-its-kind binding jersey sponsorship deal with UC Davis Health that was finalized prior to an MLS award.

The 10,000 commitments for MLS season tickets is predominantly comprised of existing Republic FC Season Ticket Holders, and also includes deposits for the 2018 USL season and paid deposits for the MLS waitlist. Should an MLS award be announced, Tier 1 priority seating and placement in a new MLS stadium would first be granted to existing USL season ticket holders, followed by USL partial season ticket holders in a second tier, MLS deposit holders in a third tier, and lastly new inquiries should inventory allow. The club plans to cap the number of season tickets in the new stadium to allow for stadium access to groups, such as local youth soccer clubs, and single match sales. The downtown stadium is estimated to hold approximately 20,000 seats and tickets will start at $20 per match.

Sacramento is currently one of 12 cities vying for four MLS expansion slots. MLS has expressed plans to determine at least two of the four expansion cities in December 2017.


First-of-its-kind agreement is latest demonstration of Sacramento’s unprecedented market support for Major League Soccer bid.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (October 16, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC (Republic FC) and UC Davis Health have formalized a partnership establishing UC Davis Health as the founding jersey or “kit” sponsor for Republic FC’s Major League Soccer (MLS) club. The agreement is believed to be the first-ever binding jersey sponsorship secured prior to a team earning formal entry to MLS.

The agreement formalizes the partnership between Republic FC and UC Davis Health first announced in July 2016. The five-year deal would run from Republic FC’s inaugural season at the MLS level (expected to be 2020) through the 2024 season.

As part of the agreement, UC Davis Health and Republic FC will allocate at least $300,000 toward community-based programs that focus on youth wellness, neighborhood outreach, public health clinics and youth sports clinics.

“Citizen Architects” will have an opportunity to make a permanent mark on Sacramento’s MLS stadium

Sacramento, Calif., Sept. 19, 2017 – Sacramento Republic FC today launched a Citizen Architect competition as part of the #BringItHome initiative to encourage fan participation in the planning of the new downtown Major League Soccer (MLS) stadium at The Railyards. The design competition reflects the club’s desire to ensure the fans and community have a strong presence in the overall design and experience of Republic FC’s planned MLS stadium.

“We want our MLS stadium to reflect Republic FC’s greatest competitive advantage: our fans,” said Republic FC Chairman and CEO Kevin Nagle. “The Citizen Architect competition reflects that spirit by providing our fans and community a new and creative opportunity to shape the overall design of their new home and the matchday experience.”

The Citizen Architect competition invites fans to submit design proposals for designated portions of the new stadium and surrounding plaza. Entries will be accepted through October 27, and the winning proposal will be announced in November and incorporated into the new stadium. Entries will be judged by a panel of design experts and influencers representative of the Sacramento region.

Submissions must meet specific criteria, including:

  • Feasibility:  Will the proposal fit within the current stadium design plans, including considerations of cost (upfront and ongoing), circulation, safety and regulatory compliance?
  • Creativity: Will the proposal create a new, inspiring and attractive feature to the overall design?
  • Community: Will the proposal foster a greater sense of community among fans and celebrate the best of Sacramento?
